Our friendly staff will assist in planning your outdoor adventure, and we have local hiking and skiing maps and guides available.
Your innkeeper, Neil Van Dyke, is team leader and 25 year veteran of Stowe Mountain Rescue and can provide you with plenty of "insiders" info on the best backcountry spots in the Stowe area (and he's not a bad guy to know just in case things don't turn out quite as planned!).
In the summer local hiking hot spots include Mt. Mansfield - Vermont's highest peak with panoramic views of Lake Champlain, New York's Adirondack Mountains, Quebec's Laurentian Mountains, and all the way to the Presidential Range in New Hampshire on a clear day.
The Long Trail (footpath that traverses the entire length of Vermont) offers endless possibilities.
Local favorites such as the Stowe Pinnacle, Camel's Hump, The Worcester Range and Elmore Mountain offer plenty of other hiking options.
In winter, skiing, riding and snowhoeing rule! Downhill skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort deserves the monikor "Ski Capital of the East." 4 interconnected nordic touring centers offer some of the best cross country skiing anywhere in the country. And for backcountry enthusiasts, well, you'd best talk to Neil before you head out for your adventure!
All in all, you can't ask for a better basecamp for your Vermont outdoor adventure than the Golden Eagle!
