In winter, one can find tree skiing or open glacier skiing, lots of 25 to 40 degree slopes, and a few 9000 to nearly 11,000 foot high peaks to ascend. The home run at the end of the day can be a long one... This is mountaineering country so it’s important to come equipped, and be ready to tackle some challenging terrain. There is enough tree skiing to keep you excited and having fun on bad weather days.
In summer, Sorcerer is stunning. There is really not much flat walking and few trails and the hiking is challenging. It is best if people expect to do some scrambling and really, this is no place for vertigo...but in about an hour you are likely standing on a glacier somewhere admiring the grand crevasses or the fascinating sand dunes. Or perhaps you’ve chosen to go see Ventego Lake, a huge, robin-egg blue glacial lake, that spills over a cliff to form the headwaters of Ventego Creek. Most groups will plan to summit one of the big mountains nearby. This is a place for people looking for something more than the usual hiking holiday.
In either season, the terrain is very rugged and the area remote. A perfect place for that backcountry escape or adventure! We offer mountaineering trips and courses with highly qualified guides and instructors.
All trips in winter are 7 days Sat to Sat. Guests must meet in Golden friday night prior to their trip for an orientation. Sat morning after breakfast we helicopter up into the mountains to the lodge. After settling in, the guides will give an extensive beacon/avalanche rescue training session. There are several good short tours for the rest of the day and if the weather has cooperated, you should get your legs moving on Saturday. For the rest of the week there is an extensive variety of ski tours that accomodate all the different weather and snow scenarios. Your guide will take you to all the best skiing and all the best vistas! They are also happy to help you learn more about the backcountry experience, be it avalanche safety or skiing ability.
In the summer, mountaineering trips run 5 or 7 days. These are also fully guided trips in challenging but very beautiful terrain.
At the end of each day, the staff will be happy to light up the sauna. Meals are served family style, and we know how many calories you're burning!
We also offer self guided trips to full groups. The group leader must submit resumes indicating the level of experience in the group. As an option for the Self Catered - Self Guided trips, Sorcerer would be happy to provide a cook and food for the week. Please inquire about cost and availablity.
