Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge 2010 Results

TUESDAY, 27 JULY 2010

LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand – A wide range of abilities were on display at the Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge as over sixty skiers and snowboarders battled it out on the steep faces and rock gardens beneath the Saddle Quad Chairlift of Treble Cone last Saturday.

Providing great entertainment for spectators the challenge for skiers and boarders was in completing the course with fluid clean runs proving competency as they took on the drops and executed tricks. The top ten male and top three female freeskiers secured their spots in the Volkl New Zealand Freeski Open North Face finals which takes place on 16 August.

Sam Lee produced a quality second run to give him top honours in the freeski competition, with Tom Brownlee a very close second. Jeremy Gardner finished in third place.

The women’s field was dominated by freeskier Mitchey Greig with two good runs. Sarah Martinais achieved second place and Sophia Mitteregger came third.

While not a qualifying event for snowboarders, a supreme display of big air and tricks was performed for the crowd, with the top three freeriders scoring highly. In the men’s field Ruari MacFarlane scored a 9.2, Colin Boyd (9.0) took second place and Phil Dominick (8.7) third.

In the women’s snowboard competition Malin Lindroos produced two clean runs to win the woman’s title, Stephanie Takarangi followed in second and Abby Peterson third.

The Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge was sponsored by Summit, Mars and Dragon. For further information, visit www.treblecone.com.
