The ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, is a ligament located inside the knee joint. It is one of the most important of four strong ligaments connecting the bones of the knee joint. The other three ligaments being the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL).

The function of the ACL is to prevent excessive forward movemen
t of the lower leg bone (the tibia) in relation to the thigh bone (the femur), as well as limits rotational movements of the knee. Anterior cruciate ligament injuries are more frequent in females with between 2 and 8 times more females suffering a rupture than males. Skiers are more prone to ACL injuries due to twisting (torsional) falls, missteps and binding release issues. Improper condition also is a major cause of ACL and other ligament injuries.

The DonJoy Armor Extreme was designed for the most active of individuals. It offers many features that improve comfort and stability, without sacrificing support.

- A unique 4-Points-of-Leverage cuff and strap configuration, exerting a posterior force against the tibia, preventing anterior movement.

- A strong and lightweight 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum frame for medial / lateral control ensures maximum rigidity.

- Swiveling strap tabs on the frame accommodates changing leg and muscle positions.

- Anti-migration Supra Condyle Pad prevents slippage of the brace.

- Short Calf version to accommodate ski boots.

- Standard Polycentric Hinges for more natural knee range of motion.

- Silver-veined powder coat finish for maximum durability for the serious athlete.

- Optional Patella/Shin impact guards and calf pinch guard.

- Moldable, medial swooping frame for custom fit.

The Armor Extreme comes in a standard length and short calf for ski boot clearance. The brace also comes in a Ski version, which has a medial hinge deflector built into the inside hinge of the brace. This unique feature is for patients that wear two frames braces at the same time. The medial deflector prevents the hinges from catching when the knees are together, thereby preventing potential injury.

The Armor Extreme has been available for many years and has proven to be one of the most functional and supportive braces on the market. Donjoy is one of the largest brace manufacturers in the world and there products have been used by thousands of athletes. If someone requires a maximum supportive brace without customization, the Armor Extreme is one of the best choices in this very competitive market.

SlopeViews (www.slopeviews.com) announces the beta release of a new virtual tour application that allows ski resorts to showcase their ski runs, lifts, and base village in 360° street view style. However, unlike the still images in street view, OnSnow features full motion video, and integrates the interactive trail maps commonly used by ski resorts. For tourists planning a winter vacation, OnSnow provides complete access to the resort experience, allowing them to fully explore resorts as if they were actually there. OnSnow is a marketing tool for ski resorts looking for a unique way to engage prospective guests online and, ultimately, convert more bookings.

"Resorts are always seeking that competitive edge to drive business and help prospective guests choose their destination. What better way than to show exactly what your resort offers and merge it with a booking system." – Sarah Allen of Powderhorn Resort.

OnSnow integrates 360° video with any trail map, village map, or building floor plan. In a double-paned window, users can see an interactive trail map in one pane, and synchronized 360° immersive video in the other. Ski runs, lifts, and select mountain features represent “video paths” shot with SlopeViews’ 360° video camera. By clicking on any point of a “video path,” users are immediately taken to that location via 360° video. With a simple click and drag of a computer mouse, each user can control their point of view, and the entire resort experience is suddenly available for exploration. The experience is completely immersive, allowing the viewer to look around in any direction while the video is playing, or pause and zoom in on an area of interest.

Vail Resorts is an early adopter of interactive video for its resort websites. “The immersive technology allows us to provide our website visitors with the true experience of each mountain resort, before they actually arrive. As a result, skiers and riders can have a one-of-a-kind viewing experience each time and can truly preview an area that they’ve never seen. We employ a lot of video on our sites, and feel as if these videos allow us to go one step further in bringing the experience of the great outdoors to life.” – Charles Townsend of the Vail Resorts interactive marketing team.

To capture the unique slope view footage, the Colorado-based company uses a spherical camera system with 11 separate lenses. Simultaneously capturing high resolution digital video and audio in every direction, SlopeViews creates a spherical world which brings the video to life.

“We are extremely excited to bring our full-motion interactive video maps to the travel industry. OnSnow can give resorts a competitive edge and drive purchase intent by helping prospective guests feel more comfortable in choosing their destination. We’ve seen the success of street-level imagery from online mapping and travel portals, and adding the element of motion capture to 360° imagery is the next step,” said James Hay, co-founder of SlopeViews. “The key advantages with OnSnow are immediately noticed. OnSnow is alive with 360° video, allowing viewers to take a run, ride the lifts, and experience many of the amenities offered. This is a true virtual tour with complete interactivity.”

OnSnow is available for preview at www.SlopeViews.com. The featured footage was shot by noted skier/camera operator, Craig Adkins of Immersive Media, on whose technology platform this project is based. Immersive Media has gained worldwide attention through its coordinated efforts with CNN to cover the earthquake damage in Haiti, and its collaboration with NBC to provide behind-the-scenes access to the TODAY Show at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

About SlopeViews - SlopeViews' founders are accomplished adventurers and action-sport athletes with experience spanning tourism, mapping and digital media. SlopeViews is focused on bringing 360° imagery off the streets and onto ski slopes, golf courses, destination resorts, sporting events, music venues, and much more. SlopeViews provides a way for resorts to help their online viewers achieve full location awareness and convert them to confident, booked guests through captivating virtual experiences.

Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada, March 12, 2010 – “Skiing in March, what’s that all about?”- you may be asking yourself as most of North America’s population is shedding its winter clothing in favor more, comfortable, light weight apparel. In fact, by this time each year, many of Canada’s Ski resorts have already shut down for the season and British Columbia is no exception to that rule, par ticularly this year, considering the warm coastal weather that was such a highly publicized component of the recent Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

But the same is certainly not true of Mica Heli Guides, one of British Columbia’s premier heliskiing outfits, whose massive and impressive tenure is located on over 175,000 acres of backcountry ski terrain, strategically situated between the Monashee and Selkirk ranges, on the Western Slopes of the breathtaking Canadian Rockies. Hailed by many as some of the finest ski territory on the planet, this vast expanse of northern wilderness is consistently home to some of the deepest, driest, undisturbed champagne powder on Earth, making it an ideal location for both heliskiing and heliboarding alike.

Mica Heli Guides, which is part of the well known Island Lake Resort Group, consists of a talented team of professional helicopter pilots, world class ski guides and exceptional hospitality industry professionals, who specialize exclusively in small group heliskiing adventures. The company uses two powerful mountain helicopters to transport skiers and snowboarders alike to the farthest reaches of Canada’s most fantastic backcountry ski territory.

Mica’s exclusive and hard to reach accommodations are accessible only by helicopter. Mica Lodge, which was built in 2002, is a comfortable 7 bedroom living facility with room for up to 12 guests. The lodge also houses a spacious dining area, a well stocked bar in addition to a ski shop, retail store and common living area. Each of the bedrooms has its own private bathroom and is an equipped with extra long twin pillow top bed.

A second building, erected in 2006 and known as the Mica Chalet, is home to four extra large deluxe rooms. Each of these contains a king bed, fireplace, leather lounge chairs and a full ensuite bathroom.

Amenities include two outdoor hot tubs and a qualified staff of massage therapists. Yoga mats, snow shoes and exercise balls are also available to guests who wish to do some additional exercise aside from skiing.

But skiing is what Mica is most well known for; due to its unique location, this impressive backcountry resort offers access to some of the best skiing on the planet. What is most impressive about Mica’s tenure is the wide variety of different environments, the quality of the snow itself, and the length and consistency of the ski season. Mica’s helicopters seldom stay on the ground for more than a day or two between December and April and skiers are knee deep in dry mountain powder here, while folks on the coast are already getting geared up for summer.

This year has been no exception and snow fall has been particularly heavy during the past few days. In fact, Mica’s guides have reported over 65 centimeters of snowfall over the past week, with 45 centimeters of fresh powder in the last 24 hours alone! There is still plenty of time to enjoy an action packed ski trip at Mica Heli Ski, even as we approach mid March. Heavy storms are typical here during this time of the year and the snowpack is quite deep as the result of long winter season. http://www.micaheli.com
