Discount ski lift tickets and season passes for the 2009/10 are now on sale according to Mt Baldy Ski Lifts.

“Buy a season pass now and get it at almost half price. It doesn’t get much better than that,” states Ron Ellingson, V.P. Marketing for Mt Baldy Ski Lifts in Southern California.

“This offer expires soon and our price will increase as we get closer to opening day. The
price for season passes will not get any cheaper than it is today. Once we open for skiing there will not be any discounts on any season passes.”

The special discount lift ticket offer coincides with the installation of a new 9 million gallon reservoir that significantly increases Mt Baldy’s snow making capabilities.

Mt Baldy is the closest ski resort to Los Angeles, Orange County and most of the Inland Empire. The ski lifts can be reached within 60 minutes from most of these areas.

Mt Baldy offers all levels of skiing and boarding from the very beginner to the steepest vertical drop in Southern California. With 26 runs spanning 3 mountains covering 800 acres and a 2,100 vertical drop Mt Baldy offer an experience for skiers and boarders of all abilities.

“As a ski area Mother Nature is our best friend, at the same time she does provide us with one of our biggest problems. We have south facing slopes and while we get excellent snow it melts quickly.”

“Our existing reservoir only holds 1 millions gallons of water and the limited capacity inhibits our ability to make snow. This has always been a source of frustration for us.”

“We operate the ski area under license from the Forestry Service so any changes or improvements require their approval. To obtain permission we have to submit Impact Studies to the Forestry Service to prove that any changes will not adversely effect the environment.”

“After 15 years of studies and negotiations we finally received permission to install the new 9 million gallon reservoir. This will provide us with the water we need to make more snow when needed and maintain better coverage on all of our ski runs. This will be good news to our skiers and snowboarders.”

Derek Clarke a skier from Ontario California says “I have been a big fan of Mt Baldy for years. I can be skiing within 35 minutes from my home. I don’t have to spend half the day driving to and from the ski area. Unfortunately one of the biggest concerns about Mt Baldy has been the inconsistent snow coverage. Once I heard about the vastly improved snow making capabilities I purchased a season pass right away.”

“Although Mt Baldy is my first choice, in the past I have been forced to go elsewhere when conditions were not quite adequate. I can see with increased snow making I will be spending much more time at Baldy. That suits me just fine!”

Ellingson concludes, “Our offer of discount lift tickets coincides with the installation of our brand new reservoir because we want to encourage skiers and snowboarders to test the new conditions during the upcoming season.”

The resort of Whistler was born on an Olympic dream. Franz Wilhelmsen, the man who opened Whistler for skiing in the 1960's, did so in the hopes of hosting the Games here. It has taken almost 50 years for that dream to be realised as Whistler Blackcomb is the official Alpine Skiing venue and Vancouver the Host City for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. During the 2010 games, Vancouver will host the events categorised as ice sports such as hockey, curling, figure and speed skating and be home to the Olympic Village. Undeveloped, former industrial land along the southeast shore of False Creek is being transformed and will be used as an athletes village, with apartments and townhouses during the Games and sold or rented to the public afterwards. Vancouver, stunningly situated between the Pacific Ocean and the snowcapped peaks of the Coast Mountains, is not your usual city break destination.

There is no better way to be shown the slopes of British Columbia than with the most successful member of the world-renowned "Crazy Canucks", Canada's national ski team of the late 1970s and early 1980s famous for its athletes' daredevil antics and high speeds atop the worlds most difficult and dangerous slopes. A former Olympic and World Cup medallist, Steve Podborski went on to become the first North American to win the an Olympic Medal in Downhill Skiing and still remains the only non-European male to win the World Cup Downhill Title. Experience the excitement of the Winter Olympics (12th-28th February 2010), pick up some tips from the expert on a guided skiing day with the “Crazy Canuck”.

With cooler temps and a sense of the coming winter, Autumn is definitely not perceived by the ski industry as one season’s end, but rather another season’s beginning. Wildcat Mountain continues to operate the ZipRider, lift-serviced disc golf, and New Hampshire’s highest scenic gondola daily through the fall foliage period in to late October, but it is a forthcoming season of skiing and riding th at marks improvements & changes.

“There is a lot of new snowmaking pipe currently being set in to place on the mountain and more that remains to be done,” said General Manager Tom Caughey speaking in regard to primarily non-visible, but costly, improvements taking place at Wildcat Mountain. “And looking ahead to our usual opening date for the Friday after Thanksgiving, this season’s snowmaking will benefit from the additional investment on top of last year’s newly purchased low-energy snowmaking guns and efficiency improvements.” The buildings & grounds crew have also been working on significant renovations to an older building that formerly served as the original gondola’s base terminal. Now used to store the newer, summer scenic gondola cabins, improvements being made to the base area building will allow better use of available space, storage, & restroom facilities used by the ski school, visiting domestic & international student groups, and during race events.

Other changes taking place will only bolster Wildcat Mountain’s reputation for vertical value. Retail lift ticket prices remain what they were the previous season, but skiers and riders will find value-priced ski school products and programs for the 2009/2010 season. Rates, including group lessons, private lessons, Learn-to-Ski/Ride, adult and children’s ski school, have been reduced to be more inviting for those looking to improve the skills and tactics sought to enjoy the sport. More notably, and perhaps appealing for the local market during non-holiday periods, are the lower-priced “Aristocat Tuesdays” for persons age 50+ and “Ladies Thursdays” with both programs offering a lift ticket, lesson, and a lunch at for only $45.

“We have set our price points to be very affordable for the coming season,” said Snowsports School Director Rich Russo. Changes have also lowered the price on the long-running student Cool Cat season pass program available to every New England school group to be less than the cost of 2 teen day lift tickets. “At only $109 per pass, I’ve been emailing and calling the 100 different districts in the state of New Hampshire,” said group sales person Brian Chamberlain. “This fall, it’s very exciting to make this kind of offer to every SAU that I can contact because it is so affordable and can also be a great means to raise funds for a student organization or program.” More information on the Cool Cat pass program is available at www.skiwildcat.com/09-coolcat.html.

Filmed exclusively in the Eastern U.S. and Canada while following the finest regional freeskiing athletes to spectacular terrain, Meathead Films Wild Stallions features many familiar New England resorts, Tuckerman Ravine, and more. Fresh backcountry footage is coupled with innovative park and urban skiing. What the East lacks in vertical drop, Meathead Films makes up for in finding tight tree ski ing, deep powder, unique jump sites, creative urban terrain, and of course, die hard locals.

Boasting one of the larger movie tours in the industry, Wild Stallions will premiere at Wildcat Mountain on the Saturday evening of Columbus Day weekend, October 10th. Prior to the film beginning at 7pm, Wildcat Mountain is offering everyone a one-time/one-night-only opportunity to purchase their Black Cat midweek, non-holiday pass at the early price of $249 before the film. Currently priced at $299, the Black Cat and all other available season passes will increase from the mid-price level to regular rates on the deadline of October 16th.

Filmed in High Definition, 16mm, and Super 8mm film formats, Wild Stallions is truly a unique mix of visual mediums. Last year’s offering from Meathead Films, Head For The Hills, was another forward move for the Burlington, Vermont based crew, and Wild Stallions is sure to stir up similar excitement in the industry and get you excited for the winter season. To be shown on a 100” big screen provided by Cinemaesque Home Theatre Company located in North Conway, The Meathead Films crew will premiere the film in the Wildcat Mountain Pub (open for the premiere and sponsored by Tuckerman Brewing Company) with plenty of great gear and goods to give-away and a raffle. The Wildcat Express scenic gondola and ZipRider will be operating, weather permitting, as normally scheduled for the long weekend offering incredible and unique views of the fall foliage and staff will be available prior to the scheduled 7pm film screening for the $249 one-time/one-night-only Black Cat midweek, non-holiday season pass offer or other pass purchase needs.

There will be no admission charged for this event and more information is available at skiwildcat.com. A complete list of all tour stop locations, dates, and the movie trailer can be viewed on meatheadfilms.com, as well as the skitheeast.net community website.
