With heavy snowfall already reported in the Alps, car hire comparator Carrentals.co.uk is advising customers to book ski car hire early to secure the best prices and essential accessories such as snow chains and child seats.

Many resorts in Switzerland, Austria and Italy are enjoying prime conditions, opening early to make the most of the snowfall, with skiers being attracted to snow l
evels of up to 130cm in places.

Gareth Robinson, managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: "With the ski resorts enjoying a fantastic start to the season, we ve seen demand for car hire in these areas jump significantly over the last couple of weeks. There is still availability but prices for rental can vary significantly between suppliers, so our advice is to compare the best deals in advance and book early to secure specific requirements such as snow chains and baby seats."

Carrentals.co.uk compares car hire deals from leading rental companies in over 9,000 locations, including ski destinations such as Lyon, Turin and Chambery, with prices starting from just 13GBP* per day at Aspen; 18GBP* per day in Lyon; and 21GBP* per day at Banff and Geneva.

Gareth added: If this level of snow fall continues we are likely to see a rush in bookings over the next couple of weeks. Leaving car hire to the last minute, or, worse, leaving it until you arrive in resort, is likely to mean you pay a premium to secure the car you need, so book early and shop around for the best prices.

Carrentals.co.uk compares car hire prices from up to 50 companies including Holiday Autos, Alamo, Budget and Thrifty. To compare the best ski deals visit www.carrentals.co.uk. *Prices are based on seven-day rental from 31 January and are subject to change.

LAKEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Christy Sports, one of Colorado’s largest ski and snowboard retailers, today announced the debut of its Ultimate Demo Ski Pass.

Available for the first time, the pass allows skiers guaranteed access to various types of this year’s top-of-the-line skis. The 10-day rental pass costs $250, the 20-day pass $350, and an unlimited pass (called the Season Pas
s) $450. The pass must be purchased before Jan. 12. To purchase, customers must call Christy Sports’ reservation phone number (1-888-413-6966) five days prior to the first time using the pass. Skis can be picked up at any of the 40 store locations in Colorado and Utah.

Pass holders can choose from a list of skis that include all mountain to fat skis, for both men and women. The list includes a wide range of skis well-adaptable for different snow conditions, and well-known brands such as K2 and Volkl. The complete list and additional information can be found at www.christysports.com/ultimatedemoskipass.

Customers first choose a specific model and size, called the “Primary Ski.” This ski is guaranteed each and every time, with a 48-hour advance notice before hitting the slopes. In addition, the customer has access to all other demo skis available in the given Christy Sports location, on a first-come, first-served basis. This option allows the customer to try more specific models-for example, powder skis-when snow conditions change.

“This program is geared toward frequent skiers who already own ski boots, and want to avoid purchasing new skis and lugging them to the resort,” said Patrick O’Winter, CEO of Christy Sports. “A big focus is also on fast and quality service. Pass holders are allowed to bypass the rental line, and will receive the skis with a premium tune every pick-up.”

The Ultimate Demo Ski Pass is a great alternative to traveling with skis, especially in regard to the baggage fee. The pass will save a skier approximately $50 round trip. Most airlines are charging $15 for the first bag checked, and $25 for an oversized bag, as well as a second checked bag.

Snowboarders and skiers in the UAE can now book a trip to the slopes with Etihad Holidays following the launch of its winter holiday programme.

Holidays in the snow-capped mountains of Lebanon, Austria, Switzerland and Italy start from Dhs 2,580 and include return economy flights from Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways, transfers and accommodation.

In addition to information on
the accommodation and prices, the new Etihad Holidays programme also provides customers with a detailed fact box about each resort such as transfer times, number of slopes as well as what non-ski activities are available.

Tony Gauci, head of Etihad Holidays, said: “Etihad Holidays strives to cater for all tastes and budgets with our programmes and therefore we are delighted to launch this winter programme which offers holidays to some of the world’s most famous ski resorts such as Kitzbuhel in Austria and Verbier in Switzerland.”

Ski breaks to the Italian resort of Cervinia start from Dhs 7,910 and include return Etihad Airways economy flights to Milan, seven nights’ accommodation at the three star Mignon Hotel, Cervinia and half board. Holiday makers can also stay at the four star Europa Hotel from Dhs 8,170 based on two people sharing.

Etihad Holidays is offering a number of ski and snowboard breaks in the Austrian resorts of Saalbach, Kitzbuhel and Westendorf which all include accommodation, transfers and return economy flights to Munich with Etihad Airways.

Lead-in fares start from Dhs 6,255 at the three star Pension Eden Steiner which is located in the resort of Saalbach and renowned for its extensive circuit of slopes all linked by a highly efficient lift system. Customers can also book breaks at the Hotel Mitterer from Dhs 6,470.

Switzerland is world-famous for its Alpine offerings and the Etihad Holidays programme is no exception with breaks to the Chalet Venus from Dhs 9,935 and the Rosalp Hotel from Dhs 7,730 which are both located in the resort of Verbier.

Verbier is the largest resort in the “4 Valleys” ski region and offers skiers and snowboarders more than 400km of piste and some of the most challenging skiing in the Alps as well as a thriving nightlife.

Lebanon has firmly established itself on the global ski map in recent years and Etihad Holidays is offering breaks to the Faraya-Mzaar and Faqra resorts which have 42 slopes with views of the capital city, Beirut.

Lead-in prices start from Dhs 2,580 for three nights accommodation at the five star Mzaar InterContinental and Dhs 2,855 at the four star Terre Brune Hotel. Fares include return flights from Abu Dhabi to Beirut, transfers accommodation with half board at the InterContinental and breakfast at the Terre Brune.

Treble Cone gondola application gets approval, Snowline Holdings was given approval this week to build a $20 million gondola which will transport visitors from the Motatapu Valley floor to Treble Cone ski area in future.

The gondola to Treble Cone aims to provide Wanaka with a year round tourism attraction which already provides visitors with a world class alpine snow experience offe
ring majestic views across Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps.

Company Director Richard Hanson says the consent for the gondola will give the ski area the confidence to undertake a number of improvements which previously have not been viable. When the gondola is operational it will offer safety and efficiency improvements, as well as providing visitors with a greater level of enjoyment and customer service.

The proposed gondola will take up to 2,000 passengers per hour, up the 945m vertical rise from Cattle Flat to the Ski Area. The 3.2km trip will take around 10 minutes, a significant saving on existing drive times. No date has been set for the development to begin, but it would take 12 to 18 months to construct.

The proposal originated in 2003 and after extensive preliminary work, was officially notified in August 2006. 881 submissions were received in support of the proposal. In July 2008 an amended option was presented which conformed to the preferences of the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Snowline Holdings and its parent company Treble Cone Investments, would like to thank the Wanaka community and the wide range of submitters for their support throughout the application process.
