Outside Magazine Names AltaSnowbird

TUESDAY, 28 OCTOBER 2008

The November issue of Outside Magazine reveals what skiers all over the world have known for years: AltaSnowbird is the top skiing destination in North America.

Outside Magazine’s editorial staff and readership each named AltaSnowbird the top resort in North America based on snow quality and terrain. The resorts, which received the season’s first significant storm over the weekend with eight inches of snowfall, began offering a combined pass to ski the collective 4,700 acres in 2002.

“We’re flattered to be named the top resort in North America by Outside,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “AltaSnowbird offers an unparalleled winter experience, and with our fantastic combination of terrain, snow and affordability, we look forward to having another memorable season.”

Outside Magazine’s top resort honor is one of a handful of accolades the Little Cottonwood Canyon resorts have received in 2008. AltaSnowbird was named the top resort for snow in both SKI and SKIING Magazines. In addition, both resorts were among the top 10 for the categories of best overall mountain, steeps and backcountry access in SKIING Magazine, top 10 for steeps in SKI Magazine and one of the top 10 resorts in North America in Freeskier Magazine.

“All of us here are proud to be Alta skiers on this 70th Anniversary, and that skiing pride only grows when we combine with Snowbird,” remarked Alta General Manager Onno Wieringa. “Thank you to the Outside staff and readers that truly appreciate skiing.”

The AltaSnowbird day pass will sell for $85/day in the upcoming 2008-09 season with a multi-day price of $80/day for three to four days and $75/day for five-plus days. Located 40 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, Snowbird and Alta are two of the most accessible resorts in North America. Offering the longest season in Utah, Snowbird is scheduled to open for the 2008-09 season Saturday, Nov. 22. Alta’s scheduled opening is Friday, Nov. 21.
