Skiers, Snowboarders Required to Wear Helmets

A new bill, authored by Representative Bob Constan, requires skiers and snowboarders alike to wear helmets. The said bill was passed shortly after a skiing accident.
The said incident occurred last December, when a 13-year old girl who was skiing at Shanty Creek Resort’s Schuss Mountain in Bellaire died after suffering from a head injury. Authorities claimed that the girl’s death could have been prevented if she was wearing a helmet.
The bill also involves a $100 fine for those skiers and snowboarders who will be caught without helmets. The said bill was co-sponsored by Representative Coleman Young and Aldo Vagnozzi.
Meanwhile, Michigan’s ski and snowboarding resorts like Apple Mountain Resort, Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, Crystal Mountain, Nub’s Nob Ski Area and Snowsnake Ski and Golf are currently offering helmets for rent for only $5 to $10 a day.
