The leading investors in property are recently eyeing on Swiss-based resorts to situate their investments and businesses. According to them, Swiss-based ski resorts are ideal for overseas investors l ooking to benefit from the region's strong tourist industry, claims a leading real estate firm.

Moreover, the Investors in Property believes that the growing range of chalet-style accommodation available in the area is offering unique and profitable opportunities for investors, especially in developing resorts such as Les Collons.

"In the last three or fours years the better ski resorts have out-performed by a long way the general market, so the prices in the hotspots have increased more rapidly than they would in towns in the valley," explained Simon Malster, spokesperson for Investors in Property. Furthermore, he stressed that the winter sports property market is still very much a growth sector and that one of the advantages of Switzerland is that investors have a wide choice of property and areas to invest in.

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand – The final day of the Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open featured the Red Bull Slopestyle on a day that ranged from blizzards to bluebird, highlighting the level of the riders who th rew down amazing tricks in less than perfect conditions.

An international field of 35 men and 11 women took on the massive Snow Park NZ slopestyle course providing a spectacular display of big airs and technical rail riding with a final that drew shouts of appreciation from crowd, riders and judges alike.

Adam Delorme (USA) stole the show with huge double front flips with a switch 1080 over the massive 60ft kicker combined with good clean rails. Colby West (USA) took second place spinning all his rails switch followed by a switch 720 to a switch 1080 on the kickers. Jossi Wells was the highest place New Zealander in third spinning 900 to 1080 on the kicker. On the bottom rail he attempted a misty flip (front flip with a 180 spin) not quite pulling it off but when he tried it again after the competition he landed it perfectly which was the first time this extremely difficult and highly technical trick had been seen in competition.

The USA also took first and second place in the women’s event with Keri Marie Herman earning first place doing big 360s over both the giant kickers with a difficult true tip grap (grabbing very tip of ski) and confidently sliding the rails. Yesterday’s halfpipe champion, Angeli Van Laanen came in second with a huge 360 into a huge 540 on the kickers combined with technical rails.

The Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open closes with the Icebreaker Big Mountain Heli-Accessed Finals public viewing in downtown Wanaka tonight where final results for the extreme skiing element of the event will be announced, together with a People’s Choice award.

Sports must be enjoyed by everybody—irregardless of body structure and health status. And that was what Lee Hester had in mind when he established Liquid Access.

Liquid Access is a company that manu
factures three models of water skis for the disabled.

"We hold clinics all over Florida, and sell our skis to people with spinal-cord injuries, amputees, the visually impaired, those afflicted with bacterial meningitis and many other areas, including injuries from accidents," said Hester, a retired Air Force colonel.

To produce the skis, Hester has a local boat manufacturer mold the skis to fit his designs. Beginning skiers start with the Fresh Start model, then work up to the Annie (named after Sadderfield), and finally to the Rocket. The width of the skis become smaller for more speed and maneuverability as skiers progress to more advanced models. All three models come with a cage that the skier sits in to help balance the ski. The skiers sit in the cage, and rest their feet in a footrest, and start their journey across the water.

There will be two new ski center projects to be launched soon on Rila Mountain in Bulgaria. The main investor in the new resort Panichishte-Ezerata-Kaboul is Rila Sport, Capital weekly reported. Investment compa ny Fairplay also announced its intentions to invest 50 million euro in the same project. A Russian company intends to build 30 houses in the same region.

According to Slaveiko Staikov, sport managing director of Rila, the project envisions the construction of lifts and ski runs. All hotel bases will be located outside the boundaries of Rila national park.

The general zoning plan approval for the resort was delayed more than a year because the investor and Rila national park management could not agree whether new ski sites can be constructed on the territory of the park. Investment in the resort will probably reach 500 million euro within the next six to seven years.

Another project named Super Borovets is expected to start within a month. Construction works will start on October 8 2007. A nine km gondola lift will connect the Samokov and Markudzhitsite ski runs. Shortly after, construction works will begin on other lifts and nearly 100 km ski runs. The other phase of the project will involve investment in hotels.

Snow Park NZ’s Spring Pass went on sale this week offering substantially discounted day and season pass rates throughout spring.

The tiered pricing structure, introduced this year, sets adult day passes
at just $55, student day passes $42 and youth passes $29 for the day. The special day pass rates kick in from the 8 September through to the end of the season. The full Spring Season pass costs just $299 for adults and $199 for students valid, and on sale now, from September 8 until the end of the season.

Spring is a great time to visit Snow Park NZ, the terrain park is traditionally quieter, the snow is in good condition and the warm and sunny climates add to the enjoyment on the mountain. Throughout the spring season, on-snow accommodation is also offered at a reduced rate along with a “stay two nights, get a third night free” promotion also running.

The recent snowfalls and ideal snow-making conditions throughout the season ensured Snow Park NZ established a good snow base of 160cm to last through to the end of the season. A diverse array of features are set out across the terrain park including over 25 boxes and rails, more than 10 jumps, one being a 70ft kicker, the quarterpipe and the X Games and Olympic standard halfpipe. The features will continue to change throughout spring.

Sam Lee Snow Park NZ manager is delighted with the season so far, “We have record visitor numbers for the season so far and achieving good steady growth year on year. With excellent snow conditions in the park at present we still have many weeks ahead of great skiing and riding and looking forward to enjoying the sunnier climes of spring,” he said.

The Spring event’s calendar has a good mix of competitions including the Chop Washed Up Cup, Armadageddon and the Volcom Peanut Butter Rail Jam. These events are designed to attract local and a broad mix of riders with the focus on fun and giving it a go. The girls get to shine for the Snow Girls NZ Jam – performing park skills learned throughout the season.
