FIS Urges Ban of Altitude Tents
THURSDAY, 27 JULY 2006
Bloomberg has reported yesterday that governing agencies of skiing and rowing urged the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to ban the use of altitude tents. The tents help in increasing an athlete's supply of red blood cells which translates to an increase in one's endurance.
International Skiing Federation's Secretary General Sarah Lewis was quoted as saying that a ban of the tents would level the playing field on countries who can afford such equipment and those who cannot. According to the same report, the tents which are also known as hypoxic tents, cost $5,000 while a room can be converted into one for $25,000.
The WADA will announce their decision on this matter on September.
