Skijoring

Skijoring Skijoring is just one of the so many winter activities that you can actually do all over the great white. This is different from other winter sports you know because it requires dogs, a horse or a motor vehicle aside from the usual ski equipments. The skier is pulled by any of the three things mentioned above in order to take part in this sporting event. This is even regarded as one of the most competitive sports because you’re not only dependent on your skill but as well as with the one that is pulling you.

People mostly use one or three dogs in this sport. Athletic dogs are usually the ones who are seen in skijoring like Alaskan Huskies, Siberian, Malamutes, Inuit and Malamutes dogs. But you can also use other kinds of dogs but make sure they’re enthusiastic, strong and they have enough energy to endure the duration of the race. This is done either competitively or recreationally but whichever of the two, you still need to wear the appropriate skiing gear like the thermal clothes, boots, skis, poles and with the addition of the dog harness, skijoring harness and skijoring line. Even if you have the needed protection, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be safe and sound while gliding over the snow. The risk is really high because there’s no other way you can control the movement of the dogs pulling you other than your voice. Yes, there is a line that connects you with the dogs but they don’t function as reins, so you’re mostly dependent on their eagerness to run and their reaction to the instructions you give to them.

Many would think that skijoring is effortless because you’re just being pulled. However, you need to keep in mind that this requires you to have the needed training and techniques in order to avoid injuries and other untoward incidents while participating in this sport. You need to train your dogs as well, teach them some commands that would like run, turn, pass or stop. These are the most important things that your dogs should now especially the pass. You don’t want your dogs to be friendly with other dogs or else you’ll lose the race.

Skijoring sure is fun and very challenging as well. If you’re really a fanatic of winter sports and want to try all different kinds of variations then you’ve got to try this one. Start training now together with your dogs and beat everyone else in the vast white!
