For a good skier the Alps have a huge amount of skiing to offer. The main skiing destinations are Switzerland, Austria, South Eastern France and Northern Italy. There is also skiing in Andorra (where I am), Spain, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, particularly Norway where recreational skiing was invented 150 years ago.
A few names for you to look up are -
France: Chamonix, Val D'Isere/Tignes, 3 Valleys, Les Deux Alpes, Les Arcs/La Plagne, Portes Du Soleil, Alp D'Huez, Serre Chevalier etc.
Switzerland: Verbier, Zermatt, Saas Fe, Gstaad, Wengen
Austria: Kitsbhuel, St Anton
Italy: Aosta Valley, Milky Way area, Cervinia
Andorra: Arinsal, Soldeu (in the Pyrenees - cheaper but not much for the expert)
Apologies if I've missed anybody's favourite resorts, for the bias towards France (simply because I've spent more time there),and for missing out all the Scandinavian resorts (never been, but would love to)

I know this was posted ages ages age, but thought I'd post anyway.
Went to Les Deux Alpes the last two years, and Serre chevalier before that, Les Deux Alpes was great, found Serre Chevalier crowded, but had loads of snow when I went so was still good.
