The width of the shell depends on the last the manufacturer uses to form it, different model and product lines uses different last.

Most beginners' boots are usually wider than more advanced boots, but the the flex is often too soft for intermediate and advanced skiiers.
The Nordica Beast 10 uses a 103mm last, with a flex of 80.
Also, Head offers the S series with the option of a 103mm last, with a flex up to 120.
For wider calves, you may want to check out womens boots, if you can find them in your size.

I scored a pair of Vento 6 last season and had to do some tweaking at the heels...abit sloppy... Life's good now !
