Funäsdalsfjällen
The real mountains
High, grand mountains are welcoming you, filled with endless prospects, secrets, and challenges. Off-piste skiing and powder snow, famous among the connoisseurs. Well-groomed tracks across unlimited, untouched snowscapes. Many, long slopes and few, brief queues. Liberating silence and happy laughter. Resorts where you are not treated as cattle, spending your holiday queuing in pens. Resorts with space and heart, to return to every year. This is Funäsdalsfjällen.
Funäsdalsfjällen is Sweden's third largest ski area with the resorts Ramundberget, Bruksvallarna, Ljusnedal, Messlingen, Mittådalen, Tännäs, Fjällnäs, Hamra, Tänndalen and Funäsdalen.
The Funäsdalen mountains constitute the southernmost bare mountain area in Sweden, with numerous peaks rising higher than 1,000 metres. Helags, at 1,798 metres, has the southernmost Swedish glacier.
The cradle of mountain tourism. In 1882, Fjellnes Högfjells-pensionat welcomed the first mountain tourists in Sweden, the so-called 'air guests'.
The two Sami communities, Mittådalen and Tännäs, and several old mountain pastures still in operation, mix with other examples of culture to form a unique character.
Here live free and wild herds of musk ox, bear, wolf, wolverine, eagle and lynx.
The area has 23,000 tourist beds. The tourist information, FunäsdalsFjäll, does the booking for 13 hotels, 23 cottage villages and privately owned chalets.
The Funäsdalen mountains is the most snowsure resort in Sweden. According to Swedish official statistics, the largest amount of snow falls in the Funäsdalen area and at Riksgränsen, the northernmost resort.
We offer a Natural Snow Guarantee, meaning that at least five pistes and 20 km of cross-country trails should be skiable within the Funäsdalen area from 1 November to 30 April.
There are 29 restaurants, 10 dancing places and discos in the area.
During peak season, there is a continuous ski bus and taxi service for skiers on their way to the slopes or cross-country expeditions.

| General |
*Bruksvallarna is a scenic and living mountain community where tourists and locals mingle since several generations. The floodlit track has snowmaking facilities further enhancing the attraction of Bruksvallarna. Those more interested in alpine skiing can easily go to Ramundberget, by car, ski bus or the ski taxi. For cross-country expeditions, most people prefer to start from Walles or Stigmyhrs, who offer ski-joring up to Kariknallen.
*In Messlingen, the tourist centre is in Baggården, with accommodation, services, a restaurant and activities. The lift installations at Kappruet serve several pistes and the cross-country skiers have a wide range of tracks and trails to choose from.
*The Tänndalen ski resort is the largest in the Funäsdalen area. The lifts of Svansjöliftarna, Tännporten, Buskvallen and Hamra are all connected, forming one large ski area, ranging from large, well groomed open slopes and meandering glades protected by forest to children's areas. The pistes vary in difficulty, but the emphasis is on red - intermediary - slopes. The new quad lift is a valuable addition to the impressive lift system with a total absence of lift queues.
*Fjällnäs is the true paradise for cross-country skiers, staying at the foot of the mountains, by the lake Malmagen. Cross-country skiers have direct access to the Nordic Ski tracks while the alpine skiers are near Tänndalen. The ski bus and taxi transfer services are there to serve those not using their own car.
*Funäsdalen is the main village in the area with a full offering of services and activities. The distinctive Funäsdalsberget rises above the village, with a spectacular top café and great pistes, the arena of many international competitions. Funäsdalen offers all types of accommodation and although you are near shops and nightlife, there are slopes, night skiing, Nordic Ski tracks, floodlit tracks and mountains on your doorstep. The local museum depicts the fascinating local history and has quickly become a major attraction.
*Ljusnedal is a small, idyllic village with well-kept works and the scenic mountain Anåfjället in the background. Horseback riding on Icelandic horses, dinner and nightlife at Gyllene Bocken are some preferred late activities in Ljusnedal. The Nordic Ski tracks together with a 7 km long, floodlit track are ideal for those skiers who stay in cottages, looking for peace and quiet. For snowmobile riders, the hotel is an alternative.
*Yet another well-preserved gem in the Funäsdalen area, with Sweden's highest church. Also worth visiting is the Rogen Naturum, a museum for anyone interested in nature and wildlife. Although most visitors find Tännäs attractive, it is an ideal place for anyone keen on fishing and snowmobiles. Skiers travel by car to the many alpine or cross-country resorts in the area.
