Lech Zürs am Arlberg

Lech consists of separate parts which all have their different preferences and charms: Dorf, Anger, Omesberg, Tannberg, Strass, Stubenbach, Oberlech and Zug.

MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE IN EUROPE 2004

At the award ceremony for the European competition "Entente Florale", a gold medal and the title of "Most Beautiful Village in Europe 2004" were awarded to the community of Lech am Arlberg.

"Entente Florale/Towns and Villages in Bloom" is a pan-European association dedicated to the holistic development of towns and villages. Every year, one town and one village are selected in every country in Europe for evaluation according to very strict criteria. It isn't "only" about floral decorations but also about development in harmony with nature and the environment.

Comprehensive Development

With Lech am Arlberg, the competition included for the first time a community that is situated at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres above sea level.

The strict jury was very impressed by the biomass heating plant, the local bus system, the Oberlech tunnel system, the high altitude ski lift greenery, and many other projects. Positive marks were also given to the village community, the care of the facilities, and the adherence to traditions.

Highest Number of Points Among Tourist Towns

During the award ceremony in the French city Aix les Bains, the mayor of Lech, Ludwig Muxel, received the gold medal from the hands of the Irish jury chairperson, Luke Griffin. Lech scored the highest number of points of all tourist towns, allowing it to proudly bear the title: Most Beautiful Village in Europe".

Lech/Zürs in WINTER

When the first skier wedeled his way across the Arlberg slopes - and it just happened to be the vicar of Warth - no one ever imagined that the 700-year-old village would one day be a world-famous ski resort. Lech with Oberlech, Stubenbach, Zug, and Zürs create a single large ski region with plenty of variety whose pistes end at the hotel door, and where guests from all over the world feel completely at home. Despite its excellent, worldwide reputation, Lech has never lost its homely character, harmonious architecture, and comfortably, welcoming atmosphere.
