The Boeri story begins in the 1950s in Milan, Italy, when Franco Boeri, an expert orthopedic surgeon, designed a protective helmet for his younger brother, Sandro, to wear while riding his bike. The Boeri brothers soon found they had a hit on their hands, and began designing and producing safe and stylish helmets for a wide range activities, including winter sports.
But it would still be many years before the Boeri name would become known in the U.S. In 1973, a Boeri ski helmet made its way to the head of then 13-year-old Marc Hauser, who was living with his family in Munich, Germany. Hauser's parents had noticed their son was something of a daredevil, and with the Alps as a frequent skiing destination, they wisely decided to replace his hat with a Boeri helmet.
Soon, wearing that helmet became an essential part of Hauser's skiing experience, and that excitement stayed with him through his college days at the University of Vermont. After graduating, Hauser, believing there was an untapped market for top quality ski helmets in the United States, founded MPH Associates and formed a partnership with the Boeri family to become their exclusive North American distributor.
From its humble origins as a two-person business operating in a small red barn, MPH has grown to a fast-paced 45-person company dedicated to helping winter sports enthusiasts have fun and stay safe on the slopes. Every season, Boeri ships the latest helmets from Italy via ocean freight to MPH headquarters in Norwood, Massachusetts; from there, Boeri helmets are distributed to dealers nationwide. And today, there are thousands of skiers and riders who wouldn't dream of hitting the slopes without a Boeri helmet on their head.
